What is Hat Hero?
Hat Hero is a purpose-built effervescent cleaning tablet designed specifically to deep-clean baseball caps and structured headwear without damaging their shape, color, or integrity.
How does Hat Hero work?
Simply drop one tablet into warm water. As it dissolves, submerge your hat for 60 minutes. Our targeted effervescent formula penetrates deep into the sweatbands and fabric fibers to lift away stubborn dirt, salt, oils, and odors without the need for intense scrubbing. Finish with a quick cold-water rinse and let it air dry!
What types of hats can I clean?
Hat Hero is safe for most baseball caps and structured headwear, including cotton, canvas, polyester, poly-blends, nylon, performance fabrics, mesh, and trucker hats.
- Note: If your hat is labeled “dry clean only,” check the manufacturer's guidance first.
- Not recommended for: Suede, felt, wool, or vintage hats with cardboard brims.
What if my hat has leather?
We do not recommend using Hat Hero on hats with real leather, suede, or faux leather elements. For best results, stick to fabric, mesh, and snapback hats!
Pro tip: If you decide to wash a hat with a leather patch anyway, apply a small amount of leather conditioner to the patch once it is completely dry to help restore its natural oils and color.
How to Use (The Washing Process)
What temperature should the water be?
Warm water is the sweet spot! We recommend using standard warm tap water (around 90°F to 110°F), similar to a warm bath. The warmth perfectly activates the fizzing tablet. Avoid using boiling or scalding hot water, as extreme heat can shrink the fabric or warp the plastic insert inside the brim of your hat.
When should I add the tablet and my hat to the water?
You can drop the tablet in whenever you like, but for the ultimate fizz, place the tablet in your container right as you start running the water. You also do not need to wait for the tablet to fully dissolve before adding your hat! Once the water is filled and the tablet is dropped in, submerge your hat right away so the deep-cleaning action can start working on those stains immediately.
How many tablets should I use, and can I clean multiple hats at once?
Yes, you can clean multiple hats at once! A single tablet is typically enough to clean 1–2 hats in up to 3 gallons of water (an average sink or bucket). If you plan to submerge additional hats, just add one more tablet for every extra 3 gallons of water. Just ensure the hats are fully submerged and have room for water to circulate.
Washing with like colors is recommended.
How long should I soak my hat, and do I need to scrub?
We recommend a soak time of 60 minutes. Hat Hero is specifically formulated to eliminate the need for harsh scrubbing by breaking down sweat, salt, and oil buildup on its own. However, for stubborn or older stains, a very light brush or scrub during the rinsing process can help loosen the remaining grime.
Post-Care & Expectations
How should I dry my hat?
After rinsing with cold water, gently reshape the hat and allow it to air dry naturally.
- For best results: Place a balled-up small towel inside the crown to help maintain its shape, or set the hat on a hat rack or shaper while drying.
- Warning: Do not use a clothes dryer, hairdryer, or direct sunlight, as high heat can cause warping or shrinkage.
Will Hat Hero fade or discolor my hat?
When used as directed, Hat Hero is designed to be completely safe on colorfast fabrics. Because it targets organic materials like oils and sweat rather than dyes, it won't bleach your favorite cap. For heavily dyed or vintage hats, we always recommend testing the solution on a small, hidden area first.
How often should I wash my hats with Hat Hero?
It depends on how often you wear them, but more frequently than you think! According to laundry experts, hats that are worn more than 3 times a week—especially gym, running, or outdoor work caps—should be washed weekly to prevent sweat, salt, and bacteria from building up and breaking down the fabric. For casual, everyday hats, a deep clean at least once a month is recommended to keep hair oils, dead skin cells, and environmental odors from permanently setting in.

What happens if a tablet arrives broken?
Don’t worry, it will still clean your hats perfectly! Shipping can be a bumpy ride sometimes, but because each Hat Hero tablet is individually wrapped inside the pouch, all the active ingredients stay safely contained. Simply pour the pieces and powder from the wrapper directly into your water—it will fizz, dissolve, and work exactly the same as a whole tablet.
